MESSAGE FROM STUDENT MINISTRIES PASTOR: TJ.

Welcome to Highway Pentecostal Church Student Ministries Zone, my name is Tim, you can call me TJ.

I am so excited to be part of Highway Church as we press on towards something amazing. Student Ministries has five key divisions which are developing opportunities for children, teenagers and young adults to Belong, Believe and to Become something that God has for them all.

I moved up here this past October 2017 and took the role as Student Ministries Pastor to dedicate myself to

the youth, children, young adults and the ministry that goes on inside of Highway Church. I am originally from Ontario, in a city called Mississauga. I lived there for 22 years. I graduated from Vanguard College Edmonton, AB in 2016 and took on a ministry position in Chapleau Ontario for one year. I have been doing youth ministry for the past 23 years,

children's ministry for 6 years and young adult ministry for 3-4 years. I love to see the transformation that takes place in the lives of the      students as God moves in their lives.

This upcoming year the main focus is to build and develop healthy strong relationships and trust among each other

(peers, oneself, and God.) If you have children under 4 years of age and you want to come check out the church service, we have a   preschool room at this time with no staffing but it has a window looking into the sanctuary with sound in the room so you can hear the   sermon for that day.

TOddler Zone/Kids Zone

This past year has been amazing, as we have seen God do amazing things inside of Highway Church. Since September of 2018 We started Toddler Zone which is located on the third floor, We have 4 great Volunteers that has been doing a fantastic job spending time with these group of kids from roughly around 1 -2 years of age to 4-5 years of age.

Toddler zone is designed to keep the kids occupied throughout service while they learn how to get along with each other and the volunteers, where Bible stories are read to the kids, and some singing and playing happens. The kids gets a box drink and some crackers. If we are in need of the parents, the child is assigned a number that would stick with them until they are done Toddler Zone and that number would be put on the upper corner of the screen  in side the Worship centre so you as the parent can quietly go out and see what the situation is. The volunteers are not responsible for changing diapers  or taking your kids to the washroom you would be paged to assist your son/daughter.

We have Kids Zone for the older kids from grade 1 - 5, we have a great team of volunteers who are pumped up to connect, serve and help lead these kids to know Christ Jesus. Our desire is that these kids would be able to learn who Jesus is, and how much He loves them. This group leaves midway through the service after worship. They meet downstairs in the basement in the Kids Zone area. They go through various types of things such as singing some sort of lesson, and memorizations of Scripture, Books of the Bible and lots more.

Each leader does things a little differently which makes each Sunday unique and fun. In the Kids Zone room They are served mainly Pop Corn and water. You Most likely would not hear from this group since we have the washrooms right beside the room. You may hear from us if the child is making to much distraction or if he is in grade 1-2and needs some assistant using the washroom. again non of the leaders would go into the washroom or do any washroom duties your child. these guys also have a number system.

Please note: When you come in to the church please come by the Student Ministries Table which is located on near the Foyer near the elevator. All forms are there to sign in your child to go downstairs. the Toddler's sign in and out is up stairs. When service is done, please be sure to go to the room that your son/daughter is in and sign them out. Non of  your children can leave the room until the authorized person has signed them out. Thank You

We do have other large events for these Children and that is posted usually on the Children's side of the Bulletin board. such as Kids Camp, Community Easter Egg Hunt, Light Up the Night Family Night and lots more. If you have any questions please contact Pastor TJ. The Student Ministries Pastor

Youth Zone

Welcome back everyone, Hope your Christmas Holiday went really well and you are all pumped up to go back to school. We have done some changes in our Youth Ministry, as we see that Friday for some people sometimes don't work out well. We have adjusted three Fridays to move to a Sunday Night in Hope that it will Draw more people to check us out. Through prayerful times and looking at various options Highway felt moving to Sundays would help some families to send their teens out for 2.5 hours where the youth can connect with one another, where we could have some spiritual talks and challenges. Some of the format will be adjusted accordingly as we continue down the same theme "Follow Me" Jesus Used these words to those who were listening and He had a great group of people following him on a journey. AS we take these two words, we  will find out what it means to Follow Him, the Cost of following Him and is it worth Following him. We will have some teaching nights as well as fun nights. SO please come on by and check us out as we take this journey. Let us do it together. "Follow Me" (Matthew 4:19)

First Sunday

  • This Sundays is catered to help bring your Friends out to, there is not much God talk time during these nights, just a time to be like Christ and have some fun. these nights would be sometimes at the church. These nights are combined and hopefully will come to the place where the events are great for both groups.

Second Sunday Lifeline

  • These Sundays are designed to do more in-depth Studies as a small group, right now it would be depending on who is all there Jr. high as one group and High schools as the other as the group grows we can break them down accordingly. and place the groups in homes. this would be the group you will continue to be with in the remainder of your school years. This is also a chance to build trust and relationships that could last a life time.

Third Sunday Hands on Lifeline

  • These Sundays designed to be connected with the same small group and do a hands on project, eventually what your group would like to do. in the mean time we will all do the same projects in our community. This is central in our Ministry as we would like to be looking out not in as in doing the events/activities for ourselves but living our lives for Christ.

Fourth Friday

  • Do to the church having Family Games Night, which youth and family are more than welcome to come to we have put the youth back on the Friday just for the last week of each month. which means Youth will be back to back once a month Sunday then the same week Friday.

  • Community Outreach Event, We are adjusting this Friday to be a time where we reach out to the community, We may do some theme nights or play sports or go out to different places where the community youth are invited to join us. This is slowly getting developed as we are looking at where to do some of the events outside the church.

  • Once in awhile the goal is to connect with other youth groups to have a high energy worship and challenges form other great leaders.

We meet up Every Friday night from 6:30pm to 9:30pm unless indicated in the Newsletter. You can down load the News Letter each

month and it will let you know what is going on each Friday, and other events that will happen that month and in the near future.

There are other sources that you can gather information from whether you are parents or youth such as Facebook, Newsletters and the church.

Please know that I am here for you, the youth as well as the parents. If you ever need to connect, please feel free to email me or give

me a call and I am more than willing to make some time to meet up with you.

We have a student lounge in my office with some games and some comfy chairs so if you want to come over sometime and read a book, talk, play some games and/or have some snacks please come on by.

ROOTED YOUNG ADULTS (18-25+)

We Would like to Start up a regular Young Adults group, Right now we meet up whenever, but I believe for young Adults to remain grounded in     their Faith we should be meeting up on a regular basis. That said I would love to see some Young adults to take owner ship over this area helping   to shape this ministry and to draw people to come on out to this group. Pastor TJ. would be the spiritual leader that can speak and help make sure   you remain rooted in Jesus Christ. He is also more than happy to be part of the activities that is organized by some Young Adults. Please Contact   Pastor TJ if you would love to see Rooted Young Adults take off.

Act of Random Kindness   (A.R.K)

In February we are starting up a Program called A.R.K. This program is for connecting with children from grade 1-5, feeding them

  dinner and teaching

them about Jesus, how he loves them and how they can have Him in their lives. It is more of an outreach tool for kids in the   neighbourhood that may not have dinner every day. We welcome people to join us as we see this as a great way to reach out to Portage   La Prairie. There is a page with all the details on the A.R.K (Act of Random Kindness). The youth are helping to serve in this outreach     as well as any other person who would like to volunteer. The contact person for this is either myself or Meghan Mark. She is from Prairie   Evangelical Church.
